At the heart of a Dental Hygienist's role lies the commitment to preventive care and the treatment of gum disease. Wangsgard Family Dental has four hygienists on staff, and each month we’ll introduce you to one of them, as they share a preventative dental tip you can do at home.
Kristin Dixon, Dental Hygienist
“The first thing I notice when I meet someone new is their teeth,” shared Kristin, who has been a dental hygienist with Wangsgard Family Dental for two-and-a-half years. “I have always loved teeth, and to help other people have a healthy smile is important to me.”
“When I was growing up my dental hygienist always made it a fun experience,”said Kristin. “I was able to shadow her when I was in high school. I liked what she did – helping people with their smiles! It’s more than just about the teeth.”
For those who don’t know the difference between a dental assistant and a dental hygienist, “I like to explain that I’m the prevention specialist. I teach our patients how to prevent cavities, gum disease, and any other dental problems.”
She also pointed out that the key to maintaining dental health is keeping your six-month dental checkups. “It’s essential to catch small problems before they turn into bigger problems.”
One of her highest priorities is to provide an overall good experience for her patients. They can wear noise-cancelling headphones and watch their favorite shows on the TV mounted on the ceiling. She also likes to talk with them and help them feel comfortable.
After attending Weber High, Kristin graduated from Weber State with a Bachelor’s of Science in 2022. She has been married for five years, and is the mom of an almost-two-year-old baby girl. Kristin loves to spend time with her family, playing outdoors with her daughter, and, like Dr. Butler, is an avid reader. Her favorite genre is fantasy.
Kristin sees patients Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Friday.
